NYC - Met Gala Ball 2014

Just incase you were abit unsure about the purpose of this seemingly fairytale event the Met Ball is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institutue (abit of a mouthful!) It is considered to be the fashion industries premier red carpet event - as you can probably tell by all the beautifully dressed designer celebs; it is regarded as one of the most exclusive events in New York since beginning in 1971, especially with each invitee splashing out ($25,000) £15,000 on a single ticket. It also serves as a celebration for the annual fashion exhibit while also being a massive fundraising night! I personally love the fact that each year is a different theme, this years being Charles James: Beyond Fashion, so that each celebrity can use this to plan their outfits and express themselves in different ways. Many peoples reactions to this event is the question 'What importance does this event have on us?' (apart from making us green eyed by scrolling through photos of beautiful expensive outfits) Well, this event has a huge influence over trends on the high street - many fashion retailers keep their eyes peeled for a new trend they can cash in on, even Nicole Richie got criticised for her dress on the night (even though i personally think she looks great) but you just wait until Topshop and Zara catch on to her style and start selling asymmetric back jewellery for summer 2014!

I'll stop blabbing now and will show you some pretty pictures, here are some of my favourite looks from Met Ball 2014 providing us with the re-assurance that the Ball Gown isn't dead, however this year has embraced the look of old world elegance which could prove tricky for stores to emulate.

Nicole Richie.
I love the backless and purple up-do combo
Suki Waterhouse in Burberry
Georgia May Jagger in Mugler by David Koma dress

Brit actress Sienna Miller wore a studded leather jacket and white gown by Burberry

Cara Delevingne plays by her own rules in a two-piece Stella McCartney set made up of an intricate
